Progwereld interview translation.
Hi all
Here is a translation of the short interview Ryan did for Netherlands based site, Progwereld.
More News to follow soon!
1.You recently published a new album. Please give us a short rundown: What are the themes, how did it come to be, etcetera.
“Hail” is the first release from Eden Shadow. Over the last three years I have written a lot of material for an album and there were some songs that I excluded from that album I felt that needed to be released in their own right. Hence “Hail” is now the precursor to our debut album. The themes in “Hail” are based around nature, Innocence, and escapism; I wrote it with the intention of creating a cinematic atmosphere and a strong visual element.
2.Some readers may not know you. Please tell us something about the origins of your band.
Eden Shadow originated in October 2011, in Guildford, Surrey. I had been writing material individually from as far back as 2009. It was when I moved to Guildford to study at the Academy of Contemporary Music when I met Alex Broben (Bass Guitar), and Tom Burgess (Drums), both of which were fellow students of mine. As a result of our shared love of progressive music, we formed the full line up and become the power trio that is Eden Shadow.
3.Who would you say are your influences, and what music do you enjoy listening to?
The majority of progressive music has a strong influence on us, King Crimson, Rush, Porcupine Tree, Tool, Steve Hackett, Camel etc. though there is a lot other music we all enjoy listening to such as classical/folk/electronica and jazz which is all incorporated into “Hail” in some way. Other music besides prog I seem to be listening to a lot lately is Bjork, Imogen Heap, Eric Johnson, Norah Jones and Zoe Keating.
4.What are your plans for the near future?
We are currently mixing our debut album, “Phases” which we are anticipating to release the beginning of next year. It will feature vocals and a couple of guest spots, one of which is Nik Turner of Hawkwind. Besides the album, we are currently doing shows across the UK and are keeping an eye out for festivals to play in Europe next summer.
5.Would you like to say something to or share something with the Progwereld readers?
I would like to send my gratitude to the readers of Progwereld for their passion and love for progressive music as well as the desire to discover new music out there. We are thrilled to be part of the community and we look forward to sharing our music with you. Hopefully we can head over to play a concert in the Netherlands sometime soon!

Album Recording!
Hi all
As many of our readers would know by now, Hail is available digitally and orders for the physical copies of it shall be appearing very shortly. Secondly, they will know that we are back in the studio, to record their debut album, here is a picture of Alex Broben recording Bass in the studio in Guildford.
Ryan has also been recording guitars in Wales in his DIY studio. It’s become a more common way for musicians and artists to record, especially those with a budget and who want the freedom to experiment with sound and get the best takes down. Here is a video demonstrating how he set up his lounge into a recording room and his conservatory into his control room!Enjoy
